WHERE: Lower Hutt
MEET: Southern end of the Riverbank Carpark in Lower Hutt.
DURATION: 60-75 minutes.
FITNESS LEVEL: beginners (mainly flat terrain)
Meet at the South End of the riverbank Carpark in Lower Hutt. You can get to the carpark by the roundabout near Mill Liquor. We have the choice of 4 walks we can do from here. Coffee at Caffiend accross the road from the carpark. All Welcome Nonpole walkers welcome
You will need:
Good walking shoes: Cross trainers or runners
Warm hat/beanie
Water bottle
Loose, comfortable clothing
Rain/wind jacket (depending on the weather conditions)
Poles
You do not need to register, just be at the carpark at 10am for a warm-up. In the event of heavy rain the walk will be cancelled.

Poole Crescent and Gum Tree Loop Walk - Wainuomata
Directions to walk
Drive over the Wainuiomata Hill.
· At the bottom of the hill, on the Wainui side you will come to a roundabout, continue straight ahead, staying on Wainuiomata/Main Road.
· Continue for about 2 km to second roundabout, there is a BP service station on right hand side of road. Continue straight ahead, follow Main Road toward Coast Rd.
· Continue about 1.5 km to third roundabout, continue straight ahead. About 200 metres from roundabout there is a bridge over the Wainuiomata Stream.
· There is a primary school on the left hand side, immediately after the bridge. Parking is available on a Sunday, either in the school grounds or on side of road before or after the bridge. The walk starts in the reserve beside the river. The access is between the bridge and the school.

Follow path to AFC rooms. Going behind the building, follow river bank, cross small bridge. Bear about 10 degree right towards gate behind goal post

Take right fork up towards road; continue past pump house towards car park, and around the gate across road. (There may be the occasional vehicle on the road.) Continue along road 1km to the sign “Gum Loop Walk”

Follow path down to river and swing bridge. Cross bridge, then follow path to left for 30m to the old house site and seating. Follow the Gum Loop Walk to its end. Don’t cross this bridge, but go straight ahead over mowed paddock to carpark at the end of Hine Rd

Walk down Hine Rd to No. 89 and in to Richard Prouse Park. Turn left at playing fields, go to the AFC building

We are back to entrance to Poole Crescent reserve. Follow path back to cars

Coffee
Drive back down Wainuiomata/Main Road, continue past BP service station. Take first right into Queen Street, the main shopping area. About 200 metres on left is an entrance to the mall. Park on Queen Street, and use cafe at entrance to mall on the left hand side, opposite Post Shop.
