Who would consider growing Avocados in Upper Hutt. ? Not many I bet. I came across a passionate Avocado breeder in Auckland that has a system of growing Avocados in a special way so I thought I would have a go and I will report my findings here. Here is the link that better explains the method. http://avogrow.com/
The photos below are taken October 2011 after one year in the ground and just after a fairly cold winter. I covered them with frost cloth each night and they are really taking off now.

The Orchard
I have been involved in the movement to preserve heritage plants and trees. I have planted a variety of heritage and rare trees around the property.
Below is a look at my collection

The organization I get my seed and trees from is the Koanga Institute. You can read about their offering here. http://www.koanga.org.nz/ I also get fruit trees from Here http://www.ediblegarden.co.nz/page.php?1
All the trees are in their first year on the property. So far we have 5 different Fejoas, 2 different Figs, a triple variety pear, Elephant heart plum and an Omega plum, Persimmon, Lime, Lemon and tangerine, Grape ,Gooseberry and Raspberry..
