One of my hobbies is vegetable Gardening. I still recall my childhood in Nightcaps where there were big families and everyone had huge gardens. In springtime it was all hands on deck getting the gardens into full production. Being so far south the growing season was quite short and somethings could only be grown in a glasshouse. Fruit trees were grown by all-families.

This is the second year in our Upper Hutt home so I have been busy establishing an orchard and building up the soil in the raised beds.

First plantings September 2011.

This my early spuds after 4 weeks. I had this bed in a green crop and dug it in just two week before planting.



Next to go in my all time favorite and never makes it past the back door is peas. Planted mid August. Beside them are my heritage broad beans Giant Windsor. I am growing these mainly for the seed to keep this variety alive.
